Making Ocean Health Measurable, Traceable, and Actionable

check azul

Universal Plastic and Spain’s Secretariat for Digital Transformation and AI (SEDIA) unite science, technology, and citizen action to create a verified ocean intelligence network.

It transforms local action into decision-ready insights for marine conservation, biodiversity, and the blue economy.

A New Standard for Ocean Health

Across Spain’s seas, we are generating verified datasets on microplastics related to water quality and plastic pollution, revealing how they move through the marine food chain

And uncovering the links between pollution and marine biomass

By tracking the most common polymers and analyzing their known environmental behavior, the project provides a clear picture of plastics in marine ecosystems.

This framework turns data into actionable knowledge, empowering science-based decisions and scalable ocean protection, all powered by Universal Plastic.

Why This Project Matters
We make invisible pollution visible.

Despite decades of research, a critical gap remains: no integrated, verifiable system links plastic pollution to its biological and economic impacts.

This initiative provides the missing link.

Universal Plastic serves as the core digital infrastructure, ensuring that every cleanup, sample, and sensor reading becomes part of a traceable, notarized dataset.

Through AI and ONDAs (Notarized Digital Assets), data is authenticated at the source, protected from manipulation, and made comparable across different locations and time periods.

Science in Action. How it works:

Buoys

Microplastics monitoring buoys and satellite-enabled smart biomass buoys enable continuous data collection on plastics and marine biomass.

Scientific sampling & analysis

Quantify microplastic concentrations and identify polymer types using advanced methods such as pyrolysis.

Citizen science & cleanups

Facilitated through our AI-powered app classify plastics, transforming community action into standardized scientific data.

Installation of the plastic monitoring buoy at the Port of Badalona.

This technology detects microplastics in real time and connects them to the health of marine ecosystems.
